Van Poecke benadert mythe niet als geschiedenis, maar als een voortdurende menselijke praktijk: het scheppen van goden en het vereren van godheden.

Hij grijpt niet terug naar mythen uit het verleden, maar bouwt zijn eigen moderne mythe. Zo ontstaat een persoonlijke kosmologie.

Hij ziet de totem als het begin van de sculptuur en benadert zijn beelden als totems, artefacten en relikwieën. Hij ziet sculptuur als poëzie in de ruimte en maakt aan de hand van gedichten de emotionele en filosofische lading die er al is zichtbaar.

Zijn mythe wordt niet slechts verbeeld, maar ervaren.

Hij nodigt ons uit stil te staan bij wat het betekent om iets lief te hebben dat niet in staat is te voelen, maar door onze waarneming toch een ziel krijgt.

Recente hoogtepunten: Ron Mandos Best of Graduates, kunstbeurs BIG ART 2024, 2025 en 2026 en CoBrA Museum tijdens The New Mother Sculpture en momenteel ‘Between Metal Deities and the Crown"‘ solo expositie bij de Nederlandse Kring van Beeldhouwers.

Gijs van Poecke studeerde in 2023 af aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht.

Van Poecke treats myth not as history,
but as an ongoing human practice: god-making and deity worship.

He doesn’t draw on the myths of the past, but constructs his own. In this way, a personal cosmology emerges.

He views the totem as the beginning of sculpture and approaches his sculptures as totems, artefacts, and relics. Viewing sculpture as poetry in space, he uses poems to make visible an emotional and philosophical layer that is already present.

His myth is not illustrated, but encountered.

He invites us to meditate on what it means to love something that is incapable of feeling, yet through our perception, gains a soul.

Recent highlights: Ron Mandos Best of Graduates, the art fair BIG ART 2024, 2025 and 2026, the CoBrA Museum during The New Mother Sculpture and currently Between Metal Deities and the crown solo exhibition at the Dutch Society of Sculptors.

Gijs van Poecke graduated in 2023 from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht.
